Dreydl...Bull...what's the big difference?

OK, this is pretty hilarious: Vital ordered 2 boxes of The Golden Dreydl from Charlesbridge Publishing to sell at the play (The Klezmer Nutcracker is based on the book - which is based on the CD, which is . . . long story). Boxes came. Unfortunately, nobody opened them before we began setting up the first performance, yesterday - so all were suprised to see that we were in possession of 2 boxes of The Golden Bull. Our creative team immediately started thinking of ways we could alter the show to fit the Bull in hand - have Queen of Sheba ride in on Bull instead of camel? Have Chanukah party be a lasso contest instead? (What's yours?)

In the end, we found 2 copies in the office, and Delia sweetly & heroically brought 7 from home, arriving by the end of the the 11:00 show, so we had a nice little pile to sell by the time show #1 ended at noon, and for the 1:00 show, too.

I'd better run down to the basement now and bring up some more for today's shows!

Same thing happened with the ketubah at our wedding. We opened up the box and there was a large photograph of two guys on a camping trip. At first I thought it was some kind of generic ad for the frame store, like the photo that's already there when you buy a small frame. Glad you & Delia had some extras handy, we sure didn't!

Wow. That beats everything.

So did you sign the photo of the 2 guys?

Nah, the rabbi remembered we had faxed him the text of the thing when we bought it, so he found the fax in his office and we signed that.

Slow burn? More like carpet bombing, as soon as office hours start Monday morning!

Nahh. It's no biggie. It's a tiny theatre; we only sell a few books each show - and it's not like I reap the profits! Slow burn was something else entirely. But thanks!

Very well, thanks!

Good thing you found the extra copies--I'd hate you to have been struck with plagues for substituting in a golden bovine! ;-)

Excellent point. Phew!! That was a close one!

Reminds me of the time (and I'm not making this up) that the Academy's Bookstore ordered Henry the Forgotten Reindeer instead of Henry IV, Part I (it was before computers, and it came next in the alphabet in their jobber's stocklist).

Good thing I wasn't drinking anything - that came out right through my nose! Thank you. I will treasure the image. (If I were more awake, I'd do a riff on forgetting the reindeer for Agincourt - well, not Agincourt, but whatever miserable field HIV found himself on.....)!
