You might like the gypsy life
You judge your progress by the phases of the moon
Get your compass and your sharpest knife
People love you when they know you're leaving
Soon
-- John Gorka, The Gypsy Life

Except for 5 days between Spain and Clarion, we haven't been home since July 30. Now, it's 3 more days here in California, and back on the big silver bird to JFK, where a long, expensive cab ride, a hot city and a full apartment await us.

I'm not at all sure I want to go home.

Ah, but there's this: if you don't like it there, you don't have to stay for very long. Of course, if you find that you do, you're sort of screwed.

How long are you home for, anyway? I know I should know this, but my brain is like unto a sieve. A sieve with very, very large holes.

Hee, vacations--even working vacations are wonderful. Enjoy the Bay area and the coolness, before going back to NYC.

Safe journey.

Wanderlust. It's a nice life, if you can fund it ;)

We leave for Japan on August 27; back in time for Yom Kippur!

Missed you at Mythcon this weekend - I have such warm memories of the one we met at in Michigan, it didn't seem the same without you! Travel well.

It *has* been too long since we've crossed paths. Hopefully that will remedy soon. I was at the Stardust screening in Abingdon - it was wonderful :-)

I know the feeling. I love New York, but I like the current weather in Berkeley.

We got home at 4:15 am last night.

No WorldCon for us this year, but GenCon is next week.

Those of us who can barely afford to go to the next state for a relaxacon have trouble feeling your pain: sorry!

(By the way, there's a trivial disagreement among those editing your Wikipedia article: were youse guys married in 1996 or 1998? A fanzine article said '98, some Boston paper said '96.)

It's one of the perks of being in the arts: nobody pays much for your work itself, but they cover your airfare, hotels, etc. when they want you to speak or teach - and sometimes (though not always) they even pay you to show up. If you don't like living out of a suitcase, you hate it. But some of us don't mind.

D&I had a huge illegal wedding in Cambridge, MA, in October 1996. We were then legally married in our backyard in Somerville, MA, in August 2004. I don't know where the 1998 date came from (which fanzine?), but it was probably a typo.

"!!!" is the sound of me laughing - it's what I write in the margins of my students' (and colleagues) manuscripts - forgot it wasn't general knowledge!
