I've been home all of 6 days in a row now - a record for this month, I think! Slowly making my way through the glorious stack of mail that our assistant left neatly sorted for us - hampered only by the fact that the cursed postman keeps bringing more of the cursed stuff every cursed day (except last Thursday) . . . In amongst the bills and begging letters, though, there were some gems:

Agency sent my two copies of the stunning new Russian edition of THOMAS THE RHYMER. (Could someone more versed in Cyrillic please offer up a link so folks can see it?) The cover is so beautiful, and there are interior line drawings . . . The Russians have always known how to do fantasy illustrations - my dad used to bring me big picture books back from his trips to Poland . . . I can't tell you how thrilled I am for my own work to be part of this honored continuum.

And in the same stack I found a contract with Arabesque Books for a Russian edition of Swordspoint! It is entirely possible that my agent told me about this months ago and I just forgot; or it is entirely possible that he did, too . . . Anyhow, loud cheers!

And the godlike Bef, whom we met at Semana Negra in Gijon this summer and instantly fell in love with, proved his complete understanding of all that is important by sending us some Day of the Dead cutouts from Mexico City. I've always wanted one.

Here's the cover art (http://zhurnal.lib.ru/img/s/shatt_i_a/0000005/tom.jpg).

Thank you for such a great book. I really can't wait to read Swordspoint!

Thank you *very* much! Do you know when THOMAS was published in Russia? Who did the translation?

(Much love for your surrealist image!)

I've received my copy on 23.07.2007; the book came out a bit earlier, I guess. The translation was performed by Natalya Grigoryeva and Vladimir Grushetsky (both of The Lord of the Rings fame). I loved every little moment of it, really.

(Excuse me for my poor English, please.)

Oh wow. Oh *wow*. That cover is absolutely stunning -- almost Art Nouveau-esque.

Yay you backatcha [grin]

THEY contacted ME, directly, first, and asked if they could contact my agent, which they then did, got a MS, and made an offer. I know the name of the person who contacted me, and I know what my agent said to me - that the terms of teh contract were more than favourable compared to what they usually see coming out of Russia. I don't get a lot of MONEY up front, but they promise a first print run of 5000 copies, which is pretty good in Russia. I know, for instance, that the last Solzhenitsyn novel to be published there was printed in 3000 copies...

Gasp!! :D That is absolutely beautiful art! (Green hair, even? It could be made an anime! X3) And oh-so-very emotive...must have been illustrated by a Brooding Genius, true to Russian form.

Ooh, ooh! Was that when he was being all Estranged by the faerie queen For His Own Good? Because it looks like that bit! *has not had a chance to read yet, but has Skimmed*
