A splendid time was had by all at KGB last night - Chris Barzak read from his new book, One For Sorrow, and it was so good we immediately bought a copy and made him sign it. Naomi Novik read from the 5th Temeraire book in ms., which was a thrill; it will be out later this year. Then we all went out to dinner together at my fave E. Village Chinese restaurant; it was a sort of impromptu holiday party of NY writers & readers, and if they had only let me eat all the duck by myself, it would have been perfect.
So now here I am in the EconoLodge in Fort Myers, ready to kip down so that we can drive to Sanibel Island tomorrow to meet up with my family for a week of togetherness and shell-hunting. We'll also be working: Delia on the sequel to Changeling, and I will on various homework assignments, the first of which is to answer a whole host of interesting interview questions from the Dutch magazine SF Terra, in time for them to translate them into Dutch and get them into their next issue just as TPOTS comes out in Holland.
But first, some sleep, then the traditional breakfast at Waffle House, then groceries, and then heigh-ho for the sand and the waves! It is balmy here. There is a moon, and stars. And everyone is weirdly nice. I have a feeling we're not in Manhattan any more.
