I am deeply disturbed and concerned about Katrina's destruction (and the horrible news from Iraq the same day), and what it means to us as human beings and Americans - I'm just not going to write about it here. (I may respond to Friends' posts, but that's it.)

Hi Ellen,
First of all, I am a big fan of Thomas the Rhymer, and your radio work..a little bit geeky for an opening, but true.I am writing, however, not as a fanboy doofus, but in relation to the work we are currently doing.

We at the American Public School Endowments here in Lafayette, Louisiana are working on rebuilding schools damaged by Katrina. Children's authors R.L. Stine and Phillip Pullman have been generous enough to endorse our efforts, and Neil Gaiman gave us a quick link from his journal recently which helped us a great deal.We are seeking further author endorsements from the scifi/fantasy and speculative fiction community. Donations are greatly appreciated, but not required to get involved with the project. We would be honored if you would give us a statement of support, to help us draw attention to this project. If you know anyone else in the writing community that would be interested in helping out, either with an endorsment, a gift, or both, please feel free to pass my information on.

We are listed on guidestar.org, www.networkforgood.com, and to help out, or get more information, go to www.apse.us

Thank you,

Jacob Rakovan

Hi, Jacob! I am a big fan of Lafayette. When KRVS first replaced whatever was on the air with"Sound & Spirit," GM Dave Spizale told me he was waiting for people to call and complain. Instead, Michael Doucet called to say how much he liked the show! So I've been down to visit a couple times, and the folks at the station and their friends showed true hospitality. Through them I got to taste Cajun & Zydeco music, dancing, and food firsthand, and loved it. I'd be delighted to help out with the schools effort there. I'm a strong believer in public education, whether it's been whapped by a hurricane, or just by the vicissitudes of government. I'll head on over to booksxyz.com, and see what I can do. Thanks very much for writing.

Thank you so much for the support. It means the world to us. if you could just get us a formal note on the importance of education, rebuilding, etc and a more recent bio ( unless the sound and spirit bio is ok) we would be eternally grateful

also, any chance of a note and bio from delia?
