Read all of deliasherman's travel reports (OK, there are still a couple more entries to come - let her get over the worst of our considerable jetlag first!) and still hungry for more exotica? Way back when I was developing the pilot for Sound & Spirit at WGBH, I had a wonderful assistant who went on to become an NPR reporter. I lost touch with her for awhile, and just found out she's been living in Indonesia for the past couple of years. She has a blog. (Eep - Weird Coincidence Department: what should we be broadcasting this week but our Indonesian Gamelan program?)

Thanks for the plug! I've been having fun reading about the cruise. If you like volcanoes, come visit and we'll go volcano-hopping! We just got back from one that spits clouds of pure yellow sulfur gas. The locals dig chunks of sulfur out of the crater and carry them down the mountain to sell. It was an insane, otherworldly landscape; I'm sure it would inspire a story ...
