They bring you beer. They bring you hot dogs. You hang out talking with your friends, because there's really nothing else to do. And every so often way down there a tiny guy in tight pants hits a ball with a stick and you can cheer.

Bliss.

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] scbutler, for being my fabulous wonderful baseball buddy!

Well, there is the paint drying thing.

Just saying.

I'm glad you had a nice time, though.

Dude, that is the most awesome description of going to a baseball game!

I gotta admit, you're right. I have no use for baseball as a sport, but I adore going to baseball games.

Thanks! Do you indulge in Arizona? I hear the Minors are even better...

Um, but they bring you _$5_ hot dogs and _$15_ beers that aren't even any good. And if anything exciting does happen, it's likely that you're busy with something else, like wondering whether or not that's a bit of $5 hot dog floating in your $15 Coors Light, and you miss it entirely.

Other than that, it's okay, I guess.

Ice hockey, though; there's a sport.

Yeah, well . . . I was told they wouldn't let you bring your own food or drink in - now that I know that's not true, I will bring a picnic of amazing magnificence next time!

Plus, my tix were free, so I felt it was only good manners to buy their beer.

@ ellen_kushner: True, free tickets do change the ground rules a bit. My town's shiny new(ish) baseball park (http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/pit/ballpark/index.jsp) (which is the trendy new name for "stadium" that lets you build more than one) has some rule about the size of cooler/amount of personal food you can bring in. Baseball does have a tradition of being more accessible to families who can't afford $5 hot dogs, which is nice.

@ penguinkye: Well if I say Penguins now, you'll just think I'm sucking up.... ;) Actually, I would love to learn to play, but it's pretty far down on the to do list so I might not get there before my body breaks down entirely.

Oh, but you see it all works out, because I am not a Penguins fan; I am just Penguin. RED WINGS FTW!!!!

I am not sure I have any of the skills or potentials-for-skill that it would take to play ice hockey. Except possibly (thinking back to high school gym class...) aggression. XD
