Lord Clapham's Coat
Jan. 9th, 2012 12:13 amI knew you'd know. And the plot thickens: the doll - or rather, the pair of them - belonged to the Cockrell family. One of my best friends in junior high was a Cockrell, and in hunting for her online a few years back I found Amanda Cockrell, who turns out to be no relation, but invited Delia & me to speak, and subsequently to teach, at the Hollins U. summer graduate writing program! So you never know.
As
la_marquise_de_ commented in the last post, all the info about the doll and his lady - plus pictures! and more pictures! - we could possibly need is up here on the V&A site. If you do a search on *lord clapham clothes* you get ALL of it - including stockings & gloves & waistcoat &, well, all of it in glorious detail: it is insanely cool, and also insanely useful.
And very nice person sent me this link:

It shows all the clothing in great detail - why, so much detail that one could even make such a coat for someone, were someone so inclined . . . .
It is not, however, velvet after all.
