ellenkushner: (Red Velvet Coat 18c Doll)
I knew you'd know.  And the plot thickens:  the doll - or rather, the pair of them - belonged to the Cockrell family.  One of my best friends in junior high was a Cockrell, and in hunting for her online a few years back I found Amanda Cockrell, who turns out to be no relation, but invited Delia & me to speak, and subsequently to teach, at the Hollins U. summer graduate writing program! So you never know.

As [livejournal.com profile] la_marquise_de_  commented in the last post, all the info about the doll and his lady - plus pictures! and more pictures! - we could possibly need is up here on the V&A site.   If you do a search on *lord clapham clothes* you get ALL of it - including stockings & gloves & waistcoat &, well, all of it in glorious detail:  it is insanely cool, and also insanely useful.

And very nice person sent me this link:

It shows all the clothing in great detail - why, so much detail that one could even make such a coat for someone, were someone so inclined . . . .

It is not, however, velvet after all.08- Vista forro interior traje anterior

I had thought the Gates of Boot Heaven were closed to me, since my feet went Rogue on me after we moved to the hard pavements of NYC.  But no!

Behold my triumph (thanks to the indomitable Ken at Harry's Shoes, who understands my Needs, and found me this pair of Paul Green elegant yet Who's Your Bad Girl leather babies half-off)!

Yes, those are that is my actual foot/leg, taken at the bus stop - because of course I had to wear them out of the store!

And doooooon't you think they would look LOVELY with a red jacket with gold lace?  Well, don't you?

I realize I've been writing a lot about clothes lately.  This is just because I don't think even you can tolerate a steady diet of burbling about the Swordspoint audiobook. And I do think about other things, you know!  Like, well, clothes.  And other stuff.

I'm serious about the boots, by the way:  Having to go without them (in favor of, oh horrors, TIE shoes!) for the past few years has done a serious dent in my self-image and general joie de vivre.  Because I'm shallow like that - no, not shallow:  Costume Creates the Character.  I believe that deeply.  And if you don't - well, go put on a Black Leather Jacket (or your own spiritual equivalent), and see what happens.
