Delia & I are just fine - our neighborhood, Manhattan's Upper West Side, had minimal storm damage and never lost power.  Come to that, we had minimal storm:  a little rain & some noisy winds was all we experienced up here on Riverside Drive.  (We're on a low floor, so we didn't feel as much wind as our upstairs neighbors, I'm guessing.)

I've been posting little nuggety updates and photos, if you're interested, over on Facebook & Twitter:

So probably the most exciting thing is that we're hosting Lizza Aiken, Joan Aiken's daughter, who was here for the 50th Anniversary celebration of THE WOLVES OF WILLOUGHBY CHASE.  She was supposed to be flying home tonight - we didn't think it was right for her to be holed up in a dreary hotel room during the storm, and heaven knows we've got room! She is all curled up with her picks from our bookshelves, and full of the lovely smoked duck/leek/fennel/pasta thing Delia made tonight. In a moment, I shall ask her to read us a little of BLACK HEARTS IN BATTERSEA, because apparently Joan used to read all her work aloud to her kids, and I'm dying to know what it should sound like.  There's a glorious website here.

It will keep me from dealing with the fact that, although Air Canada says our flight to WFC is still scheduled for Thursday, with La Guardia still underwater I very much doubt it will remain so, and should probably try to reschedule now.

I've also been phoning friends & relations downtown who have no power, but wisely have landlines. Ellen Datlow says Hi, she's fine, and my cousins are keeping an eye on Carol Emshwiler, who lives in their building.

Best of luck to everyone who's riding out the storm, however/wherever you are-- including Cleveland, where my brother & his wife are without power, and sleeping at my parents'!

It can't all be floods and subways, folks!
