It worked! I opened "The Duke of Riverside" and read, and . . . in the words of a French designer we met in Paris, Marie Chaumette, a delightful woman with whom we exchanged parallel tales of creative angst: Ça ne pue presque pas! (It hardly stinks at all).

It was all those good wishes coming from all of you, I am sure of it. What a swell birthday it was! (Did everyone see my awesome card from [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_in_exile? The handmade ones are always the best.)

My director also approved my latest Klezmer Nutcracker draft (phew!!!!). I go to further revise the short story now - it's about 6,000 words (also phew!!, as the anthology I'm submitting to is asking for shorter works).

Here are some much better photos of me & [livejournal.com profile] conteurlisa's cake, taken by the divine [livejournal.com profile] sarahwriter, who was visiting from Boston so that we could meet to workshop her play . . . .

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] miep - 'serene' is a fitting word. That's such a lovely picture - and such a lovely cake!

Though, I will admit that in photos my eye is often drawn to some of the things in the background - I love those chairs, for instance! =D

That's what I love about this photo - that it shows the setting, which was so beautiful, and matched the cake so well!

Thank you. I was actually desperately trying to think of what to wish - and if you look closely, you will see in my right hand *my* camera, hastily put aside - Sarah & I were Dueling Photographers there for a bit...

Oh, damn, curses and assorted expletives.

Being a traditionalist, I wanted to wait until the actual birthday date to wish you a happy birthday. Except I blanked out on the fact that you crazy Americans write your dates backwards, and I focused on the "10", instead of the "6". So I was blithely waiting for the 10th of October to come along (slightly wondering at all those silly people who wished you a happy birthday so early).

Harumpf.

Joyeux anniversaire à retardement! #^________^#

(better late than never) Happy Birthday! Till 120!

And that's one awesome birthday card. The best thing about it is everyone has their shoes off - it makes the whole thing look so homey and cosy...:)

Somehow I've gotten it into my little pea-brain that KN is a musical. I mean, Nlezmer. Gotta have music somewhere, right?

Anyway...

If there's ever any sort of recording, please let us know. My sister (the big honking atheist) and I (and equally honking Bapitst, with a little, wee pagan inside*) love giving each other klezmer CDs for Christmas.

Happens to me all the time in Europe. But at least I get a new vocabulary phrase out of it: "Joyeux anniversaire à retardement," eh? I suspect it will come in useful.
