According to F&SF editor Gordon Van Gelder, you guys are way ahead on the subscription sweepstakes, and I'm on my way to that biscuit! When I called this week to give him my Social Security number so the IRS could take their cut (isn't publishing romantic?) he told me that the novelette with my new story about Richard St Vier & his mom will actually hit the stands end-of-February, and that if you subscribe to the magazine "by Feb. 16, their first issue will be the one with your story."

What on earth is she talking about? Details, details, details in my post over here.

Just please don't ask me why the April/May issue appears in late Feb. There are some things we were not meant to understand.

*Squeals with fangirlish glee* I'm flying to Italy on March 2; it will come just in time to be tucked into my bag! Right. As if I could let Richard and his mom sit unread all that time.

That's the problem, the "hitting stands" bit: it *doesn't*, anywhere I can find. *epic!sigh* Even the hole-in-the-wall-indie-eccentric bookstores that man every Louisville streetcorner are no help.

Not that I didn't subscribe *way* back, of course, in anticipation of the Richard!story. >3 I'm looking to review said story for the March Cat's Figment issue. Word.

My impression is that it's in the Magazine section of the big box bookstores ( Barnes & Noble, etc.) that one now finds them.

What's "March Cat"?

Oh, no--it's the March issue of the Cat's Figment. Our first issue was decidedly uninteresting, so we're trying to work in both different genre'd works, a little less gushy college poetry, and some nonfiction a-la book reviews and author interviews. So I thought the story might be a nice thing to review. :3

Italy, eh? Gee, while you're over there, maybe you could pick me up some --

No, just kidding. There is nothing I need from Italy that they'd allow out of the country. I understand they've gotten very shirty about their Botticellis.
