ellenkushner: (EK: Twelfth Night)
[personal profile] ellenkushner
Last month, when Neil Gaiman's father died (the morning after NG finally came to dinner at our house!), I signed up for Twitter so I could follow him to see how he was doing. I set up my own Tweeting 'cause why not? (I bear the highly original name of EllenKushner there.) I added a couple more friends I saw I could follow. And to my surprise, a coupla folks signed up to follow me. I decided not to announce it here or on Facebook, to see how the Virus might spread, and possibly how.

I'd gotten to around 130 "followers" that way . . . but this morning Neil listed me in his #fridayfollow, and now, of course, my numbers have more than doubled. Some are actual friends who didn't know I was tweeting. Most are people I don't know (or at least, whose monikers I don't recognize) - I hope they've read my books, and are not just following Neil blindly in hopes that I'll be mythic and/or amusing. It's been interesting learning what's good to post in short form. I have to say I enjoy the invitation - indeed, the necessity - not to wax eloquent or philosophical for more than a few words. Makes throwing out the occasional apercu (or whine) very easy. (I know I *could* post little updatey things like that here on LJ, but it's not Our House Style.)

So that's what greeted me when I woke this morning from a dream of peace and checked my e-mail. Also, [livejournal.com profile] ellen_datlow's pictures of this week's FantasticFiction reading at KGB. Including this rather affecting one of Cassie, Josh & me polishing off the last of the Manischewitz.

Oooh... I've never seen Honey Nut Macaroons. We just get the basics, chocolate, chocolate chip, coconut, and the weird cherry cordial ones.

I haven't introduced myself, but I love your books. I'm nearly through with Fall of the Kings, but I think my favourite at the moment is 'Honored Guest' in Coyote Road. I think Jessica Campion is delightful. Thank you for being such a great writer!

Thank you, thank you! Hardly anyone ever mentions "Honored Guest," so it's really heartening to know you liked it.

The Honey Nut Macaroons were amazingly good. They really do taste like honey. And the nuts are not the traditional almond, but *cashew*! Go figure.

We once made our own with ground almonds & egg whites & sugar. Celestial.

Really? I thought 'Honored Guest' was magnificent, definitely my favourite in the anthology. I've gone back and re-read it two or three times since I bought the book, which was only about two months ago. The attention to detail is fantastic. I actually *confession* hadn't read the Swordspoint novels, and 'Honored Guest' sent me out to buy them immediately.

Good evil scheme.

I hope that Jessica will turn up again sometime? Lurking in the background upending things or something... And Bright Phoenix wouldn't go amiss either...

Anyway, I'm utterly delighted with what you write and look forward to reading more!

Twitter is turning out to be more fun than I thought it would be. I signed up at an Amanda Palmer show. It was the only way the audience could request songs.

Actually, not. KGB starts at 7, when it's still light these days. But even if it were, it was only over if you're Reform, not if you do the full 8 days.

I counted on my fingers.

According to my Reconstructionist friends, Reconstructionists also only do 7 days these days. O brave new world!

Hello! New Twitter follower here. I've commented here a few times before Neil outed you though, and yes, I have read your books. :P

I, MadCatfromMars, added you before Neil mentioned you on FollowFriday because I like your books a lot. I've checked your LJ before that, however, but never commented because I had nothing more intelligent to say beyond "OMG I LOVE YOUR BOOKS AND WRITING STYLE!!!111ONE!!" I suppose this means I'll have to make an LJ account and stalk you like a proper stalker ought to, then.
