This FANTASY ROAD TRIP CONTEST is so freaking cool that if I were less mature I would be in a total snit at my books not being part of it (not that they would be anyway, as they are not published by Random House. Oh, no, wait - Bantam is part of Random House, isn't it? Well, howbout they are not bestselling YA fantasy series? There, feeling better now).

Tell you what: I'll make it easy for you. Just type in a few lines of dialogue from the video you *would* make if they were in the Fantasy Roadtrip Contest. Pick any book I've written. Do not mention audiobooks (unless dismissively, as there are none. And, no, I can't tell my publisher to make one. It doesn't work that way). Refer to Florida only if you must.

In return, I will not post your entry on YouTube. Nor will I give you an iPod.

How's that?

(But do check out the original contest - especially the divine [livejournal.com profile] libba_bray's message to you - no, better yet, read her LJ post on this. I love her posts.)

Oooh! I foresee Elayna spending the weekend with my video camera... she loves every book on that page. :)

Alec and Richard on a roadtrip would be worth any number of videos. Inn service would need to be up to scratch, just for a start, or Alec would forever be trying to get Richard to kill the landlords.

I do not know what either one of them would make of Florida.

The problem with your books is that there are too many good lines.

But the awesomest vid ever for Privilege of the Sword in my mind begins with a girl's voice-over as we pan across an eighteenth c painted metropolis, with all its hidden symbols, I had never been in a duel, or held a sword myself. I had never kissed anyone, or had anyone try to kill me, or worn a velvet cloak.

Next image: a house, again in evocative ancien regime style...I had certainly never met my uncle the Mad Duke. Once I had met him, much was explained.

All right, all right--well, first of all, Marcus would definitely be coming along. Because Marcus would probably plan our entire trip out for us, how many miles we would drive each day and where we would stay.

And then we'd also have to have Jessica, Fall of the Kings-era Jessica (because of course we can alter fictional time in this scenario? Well, we've got all of them in a car, so it's not exactly shooting for accuracy here), who would know all the best spots to stop for entertainment or local flavor and also who to bribe (and with what) to get in. She'd drive, and Marcus would get shotgun and complain when Jessica turned off the road. Katherine and Artemisia (TPOTS-era, both of them) would forever be leaning up to change the radio station, or turn it down, or turn it up, and Marcus would interfere with that, too. Jessica would just wait until they were all exhausted and given up, and then she'd change it to what she wanted to listen to and wait for them to notice.

But those are all just details. The real question is--who would win the alphabet game?

Well, since I'm a bit of a visual person, I drew two road-trip scenes... I live in Florida and know it fairly well, so I thought the Brent/Alec counting scene from the beginning of Swordspoint was eerily fitting: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a306/Eowynian/brent.png

And who is the shirtless man trying to tow Richard away? Well, anyone, really. Trust me, if Richard were to materialize in my town, there would be shirtless-man championships to determine who could hit on him the first day.

And the second, for some on-the-road Broadway: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a306/Eowynian/avenueqcrossover.png

Well, there.

Next time I'm sitting still long enough, I'll make everyone else love it, too.
