Remember that "essay on my friendship & professional relationship with John Bellairs for NESFA Press's forthcoming omnibus on his adult work" I mentioned in January? I didn't think so. Well, anyway, it's been published and is now for sale. It makes me go all misty-eyed, for reasons that are, well, in the essay, and which I will try to further explicate after Worldcon. But I wanted to let you know about the book right away. I also think it's incredibly cool that they got Omar Rayyan to do the cover. I love his work; we actually own an original watercolor from Count Silvernose.

Lovely. I couldn't get enough of his children's books when I was a kid, and I've been meaning to check out his adult work for a while. I'd also like a nice collection of his children's series...

My email signature has been the following quote for quite a while.
"He invented the Fuse Box Dwarf, a little man who popped out at you from behind the paint cans in the cellarway and screamed, "Dreeb! Dreeb! I am the Fuse Box Dwarf!" Lewis was not scared by the little man, and he felt that those who scream, "Dreeb!" are more to be pitied than censured.

-John Bellairs, The House with a Clock in its Walls"

I've read many of his children's books over and over but I've yet to read The Face in the Frost.

I always enjoyed John Bellairs's stuff when I was a kid, and wished I could meet him. He was so clearly a fellow devotee of "quaint and curious volume[s] of forgotten lore" that I thought we'd have gotten along just fine.
