Have I spoken to you yet of my great and terrible love for Joel Derfner's  book Swish: My Quest to Become the Gayest Person Ever and What Ended Up Happening Instead ?

It makes me laugh so hard I can't see the page. And then it reveals truths of the human condition.  You should read it.

It reminds me, in the strangest possible way, of what I was trying to do with Sound & Spirit.

I used a chapter in my Creative Nonfiction class -- good
discussion of using humor to reveal reality.

Loved it. Made me cry for several chapters. <3 I decided I couldn't read it in public not because of the subject but because I was such a soppy mess for so much of it. For someone whose life and experience are so utterly different from mine? He just strikes right to the heart of where I've lived, and maybe where I still am in some ways, even if I've adapted well enough it doesn't look like that unless you dig. Wonderful stuff!

That book is utterly delightful.

I also recommend his Gay Haiku (http://www.joelderfner.com/books/gh_reviews.html).

Awww!

You're so cute when you blush!

This also repeated on Facebook, where it devolved into a barely civil argument about how many famous people know each other. Don't look.
