D: I just want you to know: there are wings in my future.
E: What? Rings? ( thinks: um, surely you have enough rings for one person already)
D: Wings!
E: oh. No. No, I beg you. Do not buy fairy wings. Please.
D: I want some.
E: We have no place to put them! You will never use them--
D: I will hide them in my closet.
E: Tell me, tell me when you will ever, ever wear them again after this weekend. When???
D: (amused, intransigent silence)
E: Clearly, my feelings mean nothing to you.
D: There are some things a girl just has to have.

*mediocre typing brought to you by my new iPad learning curve! Internet, by: Amtrak really did install even on the cheapie local trains, now. It's the end of an era. toujours connected, archie. Bad phone connection by: I'm in the Quiet Car, had to call from platform between cars.

Hehe, I thought the same thing when my friend Marion bought herself fairy wings. But, what do you know, she just needed them last weekend.

You never know when you are being cast as a bearded morris dancer, dressed up as a fairy queen in a stage reading of Terry Pratchett's Lords & Ladies.

(Truth be told, that company throws some sort of Fae-flavoured to-do every three months or so. The occasions for wearing faery wings are more plentiful than one would think.)

Co-incidentally, I am reluctantly throwing out my two metre tall, handmade costume wings this weekend on the grounds of insufficient storage space.

It's only a matter of time before I acquire a pair of wings myself. (It might well have happened at FaerieCon, had I been there.) Some things really can't be fought.
