Late-breaking NYC gig:

This Sunday I'll be joining writers Scott Westerfeld, Cathrynne Valente and assorted clowns, burlesque artists and entertainers in "A night of strange and varied entertainments celebrating the release of Jeff VanderMeer's new novel Shriek: An Afterword" - including the debut of Shriek: The Movie with soundtrack by The Church! Surrounded by so much coolness, what's a girl to do? I have proposed a "dramatic reading." I will come up with something truly outrageous, I promise. I'm thinking of trying to re-create the "Allegory of Vice" scene from the Rogues' Ball in TPOTS, with live participants - any volunteers?

Thanks to Editor & Bonne Vivante Liz Gorinsky for inviting me to participate in this - and for including the Interstitial Arts Foundation among its sponsors. - and for introducing me to Schäffer the Darklord , my dream geek rapmeister - listening to his MP3 The Rappist just kills me.

Aiee! I shouldn't spend the gas money to get to NY, but it's so tempting! And I do own a black leather corset.

Perhaps I ought to alert people who live closer!

That would be cool! As you can see from the beautifully-organized lineup, I'm only responsible for keeping you happy for about 15 minutes, but the entire thing looks like it will be tremendous fun.

Were I not in California, I would love to be in an Allegory of Vice! I've always wanted to be part of an allegory!

Well, we'll let this be the Beta Test - if 25 drunken NYC hipsters can swing it, then surely we can recreate it at Mythcon next August or something!

See you in Anaheim!

I'd be up for that! Mind you, I won't be looking quite as debauched as I do now, mid-pregnancy (my bosom has been decreed "overwhelming" by a committee of my nearest and dearest) but I'm sure we could rope in 24 other hippie Californians, drunk or not, to recreate the allegory on this side of the country.

Hmmm... now I'm imagining competitive allegories springing up at cons all over the world. It sure beats cheerleading competitions.

Oh boy - so true!! Will you really be at Mythcon in '07?

Congratulations on your forthcoming child, and much happiness.

I don't have memberships yet, but I'm convinced my mother needs to go, at least. (She doesn't know it yet, but she does.) I live a 50 minute drive from Berkeley, so if ever I'm going to get to a Mythcon, it'll be this one. (Baby ought to still be fairly luggage-like at seven months.)
