A deep discussion with [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_in_exile has led, at last, to the founding of a fan club on Facebook for Marcus, possibly the most underrated and hardworking character in The Privilege of the Sword. You will be delighted, as I was, to learn that Teen Vogue has already picked up the story.

As [livejournal.com profile] therem put it in the original discussion: "Reliability: it's the new black."

...Can you even see the FaceBook pages?

To my everlasting dismay, Facebook requires a login. I don't have one. I'm not getting one. But I am sad not to see the pretty.

I really incredibly appreciated the scene with Marcus and Katherine rolling around on the floor. It reminded me what it was like to be a teenager without making me cringe, and it seemed like such a good thing for both of them.

Tee hee!

I had to create a Facebook account just to go see. This is how it begins...

I'm just finishing The Privilege of the Sword and Marcus certainly deserves his fans. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. As soon as I can find the copy of Swordspoint I have I'll be gulping that down. I must learn the orgins of this Mad Duke. :) I meant to read Swortspoint first but my to be read pile got shuffled around and damned if I can find it.

This is lovely.

Don't you have to be a student to join Facebook?

You have to log in - i.e. join. But it's not arduous or too demanding. Kind of like LJ if you don't want to create an actual blog for yourself.

Oh, thank you!

We'll make you an honorary member, then.

Isn't it? (Plus I laughed so hard!)

A friend tells me that her mother, now on her second - and much nicer - marriage, told her: When I was young, I thought having someone who is very smart was the most important thing. Now I realize it's having someone who is very kind.

Reliable isn't *precisely* the same as kind - but it does go a long way.

Apparently not. When you log in, they ask what level of school you're in, if you work in an office, or "Other."

I am proud to be Other. I feel I will learn a lot.

I'm glad it made you laugh. Plus, for me it's true! I've been burned by a couple of untrustworthy folks lately, so a fellow like Marcus seems scrumptious -- particularly as he is ALSO smart and has enough inner torment to make my heart bleed a bit. A nicely measured recipe -- you crafty author, you!

It was a specific, not a general, you.

I keep forgetting that they made FaceBook public;
I keep on thinking of it as a university space. Or
something.

Fun pictures, still :)

Oh! You mean it was originally, like, an actual Facebook?

Well it sure ain't now!

I hope you enjoy the Marcus fandom....

Chef, hostess, and server as well? Truly, you are a woman of many talents... and I'm having fun imagining you rushing back and forth swapping tell-tale attire as in a Fawlty Towers episode.

Yeah -- you used to need a .edu e-mail address from
a university their system recognised to join. They
opened it up to the world (tm) last fall.

And Marcus (and Katherine): super teh cute. Many,
many enoyments. Etc.

X3!

You know, the club was initially going to be themed "People Who Can't Listen to 'I'll Make A Man Out of You' Without Thinking of Katherine and Richard at Highcombe". But then the name seemed too long. And we realized it only applied to just one of my colleagues and myself. And that inspiredful conversation happened.

*does the fan-girl dance for Marcus*

I do love Marcus. When he tells Katherine he's reliable, my heart melted.
