The sun is shining brightly over Riverside Drive, and it's been snowing for about the past half hour; big white flakes that dance in the strong (and noisy) wind, going up and across as much as down. It's something to see.

The sky here in Cambridge has something of the Old Dutch Masters. It's cold, but bright.

Finished reading tPotS in one sitting, uhm, reading, mostly in bed. Turned the final page around 4am. Thank you for such a wonderful book. It's been a long time since I was this enraptured.

Maybe it's because I just read Sorcery & Cecilia, but St. Viers has that aloofness that makes Mr Darcy so alluring. Or am I hallucinating and should I get some sleep? :-)

Down on Canal Street there was a moment when if I looked out our building's north window I saw sunny skies, but when I looked out the west window there was nothing but white-out conditions.

Odd, indeed.

Sometimes I really miss the New England sky.

I'm so glad you liked TPOTS! The question of sexy aloofness deserves an essay all its own, which I am not qualified to write. But there are certain emotional resonances, like particular chords, that people just respond to (or don't - just as not everyone likes okra or bitter orange, to mix a metaphor in the whirring blender of my brain - some people really hate Alec, for instance, or Wallace Shawn - strong flavors, anyway) - anyway, the Darcy flavor is one with its own recognizable resonance, and those who enjoy it will probably always like something cooked with it.

There's a whole spice rack full of these characters: Holmes/Spock; Wimsey/Lymond, etc. etc.... It hardly matters, as reader or writer, where you jump into the mix; you just know it when you see it. My college friends & I used to discuss this at length. But now I must go do my taxes instead. Sorry not to be more coherent; perhaps someone else will take up the challenge?

What on earth is the devil doing to his wife now?

The blend of spices changes regularly, however, and that's part of what I like about TPOTS. There are moments when I want to strangle Alec, moments when I pity him, moments when I want to debate with him. The same for Kate, Marcus, etc. What particularly stood out for me were the moments where Kate betrays her age. She's growing more adult every page and then suddenly she turns into this akward teenager. To think that this is the same Kate that we see in TFOTK!

Good luck with your taxes!

Snow falling down on Riverside...hmm, now, where have I heard that before?

Next thing you know, there will be swordfights extravaganza and blood all over the place. X3

You really live on a street called Riverside Drive, Ms. K? :3

Well, I can see it from my window . . . .

It used to be a lot grubbier and, well, more Riverside-like - lots of lovely old buildings cut up into cheap apartments - now they're all being fixed up and renovated . . . but it still does snow. Sometimes.

I always felt a special connection to Riverside because I live on Riverside Drive, actually. As lame as that sounds.

And so you should! Swordspoint was written when I was living on W. 110th between Broadway & Amsterdam, after all.

Thank you. It is such joy to have a reader who notices all that.
