[livejournal.com profile] desperance has assured me: Despite having no British edition, TPotS really is longlisted for the British Fantasy Society award for Best Novel.

"In these blessed days of Amazon, " he writes, "import costs are no longer an issue; we can buy US books for perfectly reasonable price."

I am overjoyed - and overwhelmed*! And we both agree that, despite the BFS suggesting that authors might like to go onto their Discussion Board to tell the voters just how very interesting our books are, well, it feels kinda awkward . . . .

Perhaps a Gentle Reader would like to go and explain to them all what a swell book The Privilege of the Sword is? And while you're at it, pick up a copy of Bridge of Dreams by some guy named Chaz Brenchley who seems to be a close associate of his, and see what you think of that, too . . . . Only BFS Members can vote ( joining is easy), but anyone can chime in on their Discussion Board.

*A gloss on that "overwhelmed:" It's not just the honor, it's the summer. It's Monday night. Boring stuff tom'w you don't wanna hear about; then I've got Interfictions at KGB on Weds., Delia's birthday (I'm taking her to the ballet) & cousin's graduation (1pm) on Friday, to ALA on Saturday (I'll be signing The Golden Dreydl at the Charlesbridge booth on Sunday 1-2 - come and say Hi! And let me know if you know about any good parties there), home Monday and off to Spain on Saturday (landing in Barcelona on July 1 - if you live there and/or have a favorite restaurant, let me know!), then on to Madrid where we get on the train for the Semana Negra conference & funfest . . . back in time to do laundry & get on plane for San Diego to teach 2 weeks of Clarion, then on to Mythcon, home for more laundry & lots of opening mail, then to NipponCon in Yokohama.

The strongest spirit might well quail - or at least, quiver gently.

This sounds like a job for...SUPERFAN!!! :D *throws on sparkly cape and skips off to Discussion Board*

This is so completely deserved. TPOTS is certainly riding a looong wave of recognition, just as it merits. (3

Congratulations on the Lotus Award, Ellen! XD!!! *cheers madly* You made it so people couldn't comment because you knew you'd be caught in a tidal wave of well-wishes, didn't you?

We are familialy delighted that PotS won the Locus award (David pumped his fist in the air when I told him). Well-deserved, indeed!

I'm in Madrid, if you get any spare time in that city. I also know your publisher, Luis Prado, and he'll take great care of you. You'll have a blast at Semana Negra.

Thank you! We only have a couple of days, and Luis is taking us to Toledo for one of them. (We actually met him in Glasgow, and I think he's wonderful.) But I'll try to let you know if the smoke looks like clearing . . . I must say, I'll believe Semana Negra when I see it! The stories seem too goodly weird to be true....
