OK. I think I've figured it out. They have to be Almond or Mocha.

That's all.

I'd guess almond...I've noticed that flavor is really good at being sneaky. I wish that bakery had a website where you could order their treats...but they don't. :(

Huh.

So there are no more good fruit jam or pistachio petits fours any more, or does the "little cakes" definition just require almond or mocha?

Huh. Well, let's just say that Delice's apricot was very disappointing. But then, there was no fruit jam in it. (they have left undone those things they ought to have done...)

Orange and lemon are good, but it -has- to be almond. There's no substitute.

You writers, going around and putting your ideas in the heads of complete strangers!

I had to go get petit fours last night, and Memphis doesn't exactly have much in the way of good bakeries. Still, even the cheap ones will do in a pinch.

I'd forgotten how tasty the mocha ones are.

Diana Wynne Jones' MAGICIANS OF CAPRONA once sent me out for spaghetti ingredients at 11 p.m. (Fortunately, it was in NYC, so the groceries were still open....)

Mocha rules.
