my weekend
Jul. 18th, 2005 02:18 pmThe Davis Square ArtBeat festival was wonderful. We enjoyed reading and being read to, and I got to meet
saralinda and friend - thanks for coming, guys! (If
shadesong was there, she came incognita.) I also got to meet the creator of some of our favorite Pre-Raphaelite-inspired jewelry, Jennifer Parrish, who is just as lovely as her work. In the Small World department, she turns out to be a friend of my Esther fiddler, Joe Kessler - in the Coincidence department, we pretty literally tripped over Joe (well, his dog, a stunning greyhound with black-and-tawny tiger stripes) at the Parrish Relics street booth, which happened to be set up across the street from Johnny D's Uptown Restaurant & Music Club, justabout my favorite place to hear all kinds of music on the planet (and the food's good, too!). So guess what?! The fabulous Dana-who-books-the-music-acts has invited us to come and perform Thomas the Rhymer there on October 18th! I am thrilled beyond belief - Johnny D's is to Somerville's music scene as the Apollo was to Harlem's - for me, anyway. More on this as the date draws nearer.
To make up for all Saturday's fun and frolic, I spent Sunday glued to the computer, and actually did get the first 228 pages of the revisions on the "Katherine" novel off to my editor, Anne Groell, at Bantam this morning. Only about 150 more to go - but they're the tricky ones! Wish me luck.

Date: 2005-07-18 12:54 pm (UTC)Anyway, it was very nice meeting you and perhaps we'll see you again at some function or other!
BTW--The corridor leading to the theater was a veritable labyrinth. We very nearly ended up in a broom closet, and then a utility room. QUITE an adventure!

Date: 2005-07-18 07:26 pm (UTC)I'm glad you stopped by. I admire your own art ("Sticks & Stones (http://www.erzebet.com/)") very much, and was moved by your reply to my post (http://p081.ezboard.com/finterstitialartsfrm2.showMessage?topicID=155.topic) on the IAF Discussion Board, and intend to reply there when I can; meanwhile, I'm glad we sparked such a good conversation!
And now, back to our regularly scheduled novel. . . .

Date: 2005-07-22 04:12 pm (UTC)I must ask--I happen to be reading Sorcery and Cecelia by Pat Wrede and Caroline Stevermer, and observed that the book is dedicated to 'Austen, Heyer, Tolkien, and Ellen Kushner'. If they are not in fact referring to a different Ellen Kushner, I'm quite on fire to know how you inspired a book published twenty years before your own novels.
