It takes so little to make me happy.

That, and my esteemed colleague yswilce (author of my beloved Flora Segunda) assures me that I am not alone in having a desk so cluttered with stuff that I must go elsewhere to find my "White Space" to write. Being a Scholar as well as a Gentlewoman (and snappy dresser), she cites, of course, a reputable source.

If it wasn't for the folders and clips next to my computer, I wouldn't be able to find anything at all. And I do all my work on the computer, so I can't go elsewhere. *sigh*

I think I could compile a pretty good novel out of the stuff on my desk. Faerie dresses and aspirin and ashtrays and the Virgin Mary and earrings and last-month's water bill and a copy of The Tin Woodman of Oz. Plus a mysterious tiny flat plastic box, which I just discovered when I moved the ashtray, that looks like something one would use to smuggle microchips out of Stalingrad. Surely there has got to be a story in here somewhere.

Flora Segunda! Thank you! I'd meant to put that on my Christmas list (turns out it's okay, because it's not out here till May next year), but all I could remember is 'it's YA, I think, and it has a heroine with a longish, strange name'. The closest I could get was The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray, but that's gone on my wishlist too.
