This is a P.S. to my last post on the 1- to 6-week writing workshops: Many regional sf/f conventions also offer half-day workshops with established writers. I know, for instance, that Delia teaches one at Wiscon every year. What other cons offer this? I think Boskone, but I'm not sure . . . . Please help others out by naming those you're aware of below.

Potlatch (which is, underneath it all, a fundraiser for Clarion West) does.

Not short workshops:

Jim Gunn's two-week SF Writer's Workshop (http://www2.ku.edu/~sfcenter/SFworkshop.htm) is outstanding.

For my sins, I teach a two-week novel workshop (http://www2.ku.edu/~sfcenter/novel-workshop.htm) for the Center for the Study of Science Fiction every year.

I-con on Long Island does too, but I don't know the details.

I could easily get the details. Or just point someone on the staff over here to give the details.

I think Boskone's last year was kids-only - it was Bruce Coville. My daughter went and loved it. I hope they do it again this year!

SoonerCon will offer a writing workshop for kids and/or YAs. We did this in October with kids under 12 and together wrote a story. The con published it as a chapbook for the kids. We received very good responses from the parents and the kids. We're planning on doing another one, and possibly one for the YA age group as well.

I believe that Austin's Armadillocon periodically does a writer's workshop as well.

Capclave has one as well. They also do a short reviewers workshop.

Sometimes Conjecture in San Diego offers a half-day workshop; I don't know that Condor (the older SD con) ever has but I could be wrong... it happens.

I was at WisCon's writer's workshop last year. The novel came out better and I made some wonderful contacts. I hope to go again this year, with the WIP.

Dragon*Con always has a writer's workshop. It's usually the Thursday before the con (which runs Friday, Sat, Sun, and Mon of Labor Day weekend in Atlanta).
