I agree it's nicely done; at the same time it feels a little weird taking writing advice from someone with a rather controversial past history (http://www.fanhistory.com/index.php?title=Cassandra_Claire).

Hey! I've got a swell idea! If you don't like the advice, don't take it. That way you won't have to feel weird.

I've got an even sweller idea - let's not encourage teen writers to take advice from plagiarists.
