There is much rejoicing on Riverside Drive! There is a snowstorm, and a gaggle of brightly-dressed 2-yr-olds are cavorting on the verge by the park. They are the only color in our suddenly black-and-white world of trees and snow. And Delia's story is on the Nebula ballot! We might have to go to Austin after all.

May I recommend (if you have space outside for them) coral bark maple (Acer palmatum 'Sangu Kaku') or Red Twig Dogwood (Cornus alba 'Sibirica'), shrubs that do fine in containers and should survive your winters. They look amazing with their red bark surrounded by snow or general winter greyness.

If the two of you go to Austin, please let me know! I probably can't afford the trip, and I've been told that I need to designate someone to accept my award for me if the unthinkable happens and I actually win. The only other people I'll know there are going to be competing in my category, and it seems mean to ask one of them to do it for me.
