The Instititute for Figuring, "an organization dedicated to the poetic and aesthetic dimensions of science, mathematics and the technical arts . . . [interested in] the manifestation of figures in the world around us and the figurative technologies that humans have developed through the ages", has somehow gotten people crocheting (and even wearing) coral reefs.

Just thought you'd want to know.

Actually, my friend Rosemarie (one of the founders of NYUSFS) and I are among the crocheters for the New York group. There will be two displays: the original one, from mid-April to mid-May, will be at NYU's Windows on Broadway, located at Broadway and West 10th Street; the New York group's display will be from mid-April to sometime in August, and will be located at the World Financial Center, in downtown Manhattan. I have four pieces going in, Rosemarie has two, and another friend, Barbara has one.

Hope everyone gets to at least one of the two displays!

Wow! Extremely cool. And I love crochet and I love coral reefs so what could be better?

And the site in general looks to be chock full of fascinating tidbits, such as "What It Is Like to be a Spider," something I've always wondered about, oddly enough.
