No (Wis)con report from me

. . .yet, but you can go to
aamcnamara's to see a photo of Delia & me (all got up in our handmade silks for the Tiptrees, with a glimpse of The Necklace showing [more to come, I hope]) showing off her "People's Glorious Rising Crescent University" t-shirt . . . wotta thrill!
Right now I am On Retreat in a house by a river in northern Wisconsin with a small group of like-minded souls (Delia, Doselle, Janine, Alaya & Naomi), trying to make a short story lie down and behave itself. It is as unlike the last Process I documented as it could possibly be. Sheer slogging. I hope it will be worth it. I trust it will.
We are all drinking tea like mad.

Date: 2008-05-28 06:27 am (UTC)I don't know why it hasn't occurred to me until now to tell you. I guess it's sort of like hearing the squeak of a loose hinge and wishing it would just stop squeaking, then realizing that you could tighten it, and tap-dancing Christ, you bought a screwdriver for just such an eventuality, and cleverly put it in a drawer so you'd have it stored out of sight but close to hand, and you did it two years before the hinge ever started squeaking, and the last six years of that squeaking hinge become slightly hilarious.
Anyway, it's about the first time I read Swordspoint. It was eleven years ago, when I was in the Navy. I was in the hospital, bored out of my mind, and there was a shelf with hand-me-down and cast-off books. Having been intrigued by the subtitle, A Melodrama of Manners some years prior in the bookstore but unable to remember the actual title, I picked it up. And there I was, a closeted gay sailor, nervous as hell what with DADT and all, devouring this book whole and unable to believe my scandalously good fortune.
So you can thank the U.S. Navy for introducing me to your fiction.
Hinge fixed
