Everyone walks their dogs on Riverside Drive, as it is across from the park. Today on our way to the gym we saw a woman walking a dachsund with markings I'd never seen before. "Look!" I said (softly); "a wiener dog with spots!" Delia loftily informed me that it was a brindled wiener dog.

I dare you to say that out loud. If you're having a bad day - or even if you're not - I can pretty much guarantee that saying "a brindled wiener dog" will make you laugh. If that doesn't work, let me know.

spelling corrected as requested

Ah, she is lofty, that Delia.

I laughed.

The phrase fits really well with the Ta-ra-ra-BOOM-de-ay rhythm, for anyone who didn't already have that melody attached.

Passing on my earworm to you all, Ring-style.

Not to be confused with the "Camptown Races" rhythm, available in a convenient news ticker format.

"Brindled Weiner Dog" would be a good name for a band.

Is she sure it was a brindle and not a piebald weiner dog?

Although both are funny when you say them. So I'm not sure it matters.

Yep, that works all right.

It also proves that between the two of you, you and Delia know everything.

We poor owners of wiener dogs ... the indignity we must suffer!

Ha! That's the good thing about having a doxie ... they are always good for a laugh!

I must implore you to follow Germanic spelling rules and set it down as "wiener dog." My maiden name was Weiner (pronounced with a long I) and I grew thoroughly sick of the Oscar Meyer song before I was out of elementary school.

you say "wiener," I say "weiner"

Oh, gosh, you're right! That's what I get for trying to post and pack at the same time. Will correct spelling above, prontopups!

Sounds good, but brindle isn't spotted. Brindle is multiple
colors peppered throughout the coat, while piebald is actual
spotting -- a white body with spots, like a Dalmation or
a Harlequin Great Dane.

You usually see brindling in red Dachsies -- sort of like
a roan horse.

Trust me, it was brindled. Only a fool like me would call it "spotted."

Did it look like Maggie? She's a red brindle.

The joke around here is how many wieners do I have - and since one of those is also a male dog - and a male person could be asking the question - it's our best gag - because we are all 12.

She just likes saying, "brindled." It's a good word, and rare.
