I am in %&/$"£òàù§§ Rome! It is fantastic - even better than they said it would be. Hotel right down alley from Campo di Fiore, and yeah, it,s a lot like my City. A lot. Except for all the churches. Much walking on volcanic cobblestones and around ancient forii. Have butt muscles I never knew I lacked. Have eaten food I never knew I was missing! Leaving Sunday for cruise on giant floating hotel to see Dubrovnik, Ephesus,Corfu and a buncha places Iàm too tired to get right now - Delia is writing looooong post about our first 2 days which will appear when we find WiFi - but we have already decided We Will Return. Must go fall over now. Not sure how much access to wireless is ahead, but back June 19th - Love & Carcifiola - e

I suspect she means "cruise ship". Floating hotel just sounds cooler.

Avete mangiato dei carciofi alla giudea?

No, wait. Wrong keyboard. Or something.

Have you had the Jewish fried artichokes?

I'm sure I'll miss not making it to Rome on my upcoming trip.

It sounds fabulous and I'm very much looking forward to my armchair traveling via Delia's journal. In the meantime, I will try not to be consumed with envy and remind myself that I live in a place people dream of visiting.

My mother's over there right now, too. I hope you all (she's with one of her granddaughters) have a great trip.

T'envio, mia amica. Buon viaggio, e per favore, bevi un bicchiere di vino rosso per me!

Con affetto,

It sounds absolutely wonderful and I envy your trek across cobblestones. I'd even tempt payback from unused butt muscle to make those walks :-D

And mmmm!!!! Italian food!

We stayed in a rooftop apartment a few blocks north of Campo dei Fiori, and did our shopping there. Loved it! Yes, try the fried Jerusalem artichokes - there are places down in the old ghetto section, SE of you towards the river bend.

Also nearby is Torre Argentina (http://www.romancats.com/), where the cats of Rome hang out.

Ah, Rome. I remember a particularly fantastic restaurant called Trattoria del Pallaro where they gave us an amazing five-course meal for €18 (back in 2004, that is). It's near the Campo dei Fiore, if I'm remembering properly, one block south of Corso Vittorio Emmanuele, down the Largo del Chiavari (the proper address is Largo del Pallaro, 15). I do also remember that we got incredibly lost trying to find it, so...

Have a marvellous time!

Does your City (the one Riverside is part of, I assume) have a name yet?

I envy you two.

I do have to try Rome, someday. I'll be in Barcelona in two weeks, though. Can't think of any opera occurring there, not even Carmen. Probably a few zarzuelas.

Er... "forii"? You've lost me. Unless you meant "fora"? O_____O?

Happy cruise!

I love Rome. I'm glad to hear your enjoying your stay. Hope it isn't as hot in Rome as it is here. The Northeast is sweltering.
