Vissi in Arte
Jun. 7th, 2008 12:12 pm(Fri. night 11 pm - lord knows when it will actually get posted)
omg, this is awesome! (ok, I know I won't see 20 again - or even 30 - but allow me my little enthusiasms) Our hotel is right in the middle of ToscaLand - 2 streets away from the church where it all begins - and here I am in our room (having had the prescience to load Callas' Tosca into Delia's i-Tunes listening to Evil Scarpia's "2 Cops, 1 Carriage" with the bells ringing - and the same bells are right down the street!
I don't even mind doing my ultraboring stretching excercises before bed while this is going on. Did I mention our fairly plain room on the top floor walkup has a peaked ceiling with rafters? And the Palazzo Farnese, where Scarpia has his evil offices, is 4 blocks in the other direction. I hear fans occasionally rent one of the ubiquitous tourist carriages (no cops, no waiting) to drive them from the church to Farnese - I won't go to Sant'Angelo, it's too sad there.
