Freedom to Marry in Massachusetts
Jul. 30th, 2008 12:04 amA friend in Boston got this note from her state rep today, and kindly forwarded it:
Recently, the legislature has been considering a bill which would repeal the 1913 law which limited the freedom of persons traveling to Massachusetts to marry according to our laws (prohibiting marriages in Massachusetts which would be illegal in the state of residence of the spouses).
I'm pleased to report that the house passed this bill today at 3:38PM. The vote was 118 to 35 in favor..... The bill has already passed the Senate.
Bring on the lobstah and the Filene's Basement wedding dress extravaganzas! On to Northampton, Provincetown, and Points East! Calloo, callay.
