Re: helping out
Date: 2009-05-20 06:37 pm (UTC)My husband bought me the Last Unicorn CD audiobook with Two Hearts way back in May 2005. I remember there were delays, and we were in touch with you for a while, but then we didn't get any more updates--or audiobooks, or Two Hearts.
I fully understand that you're a one-man operation trying to do good, but you can probably understand that I am less than thrilled with Conlan Press.
Have you really been having production delays for the last four years?
Re: helping out
Date: 2009-05-20 08:07 pm (UTC)We've been regularly updating people through both THE RAVEN (Peter's email newsletter) and THE CONLAN PRESS (our email newsletter) and the UPDATES page at www.conlanpress.com itself. It sounds like you haven't seen any of that material, which concerns me.
The reason for the delay is that Peter faced an enormously difficult family crisis after his mother died, and to deal with the fallout from that crisis he had to borrow a lot of money. I wound up loaning him most of my life savings, which was the money that I had set aside to cover the difference between sales income and actual publishing costs on the LAST UNICORN audiobook and the collector's hardcover TWO HEARTS. Peter and I are both working very had to replace the loaned money so we can proceed as originally planned, but it is taking a long time because (a) it was a lot of money; (b) the crisis, despite everyone's efforts, isn't over yet and has continued to drain Peter's resources; and (c) Peter has been having a hard time getting certain parts of the publishing world and film world to pay him what they owe him.
But we're both working hard to fill this financial gap, and we will ultimately succeed.
Meanwhile, anyone who wants to stop waiting and get a refund should just ask. We've done that for about 20 customers so far. Everyone's money is safe in the bank and can be refunded at any time.

Date: 2009-05-21 12:26 am (UTC)In the last three years we have delivered more than 15,000 Beagle-related products to more than 8,000 customers. I have shipped out another 300+ orders in just the last week. Lots of happy fans there.
This one problem we've had was caused by a serious problem in Peter's life that no one could have predicted in advance. The vast majority of CP customers understand this and have made clear that they are willing to wait longer in order to get something special at a very low price. Those that aren't willing to wait only have to ask for a refund and they'll get it. This is how we keep everyone as happy as possible under the circumstances.
I don't know your actual name so I can't look you up in the customer database and ascertain your status. If you are unhappy and want a refund, please email me directly at connor@conlanpress.com.
