My Post-Apocalyptic Barter Skill - can you guess? Guess, then click on this delicious compilation by Liz Gorinsky for Tor.com (which includes a KGB report) and let her know yours.

Why isn't my website as clear & gorgeous as Michelle Shocked's?

4 days left to listen to BBC's radio drama Darger and the Detective: "A play drawing on the writings of reclusive artist Henry Darger, imagining his inner life....Recorded in Chicago by actors from the Steppenwolf Theatre Company" by my radio pal Judith Kampfner!

...I gotta say that as a former professional web designer, I'd take your site design over Michelle Shocked's any day of the week and twice on Sunday. And that was *before* I discovered her homepage plays music at me, which *froth*

o.o

Hi there, I've just joined up with your sizable legion of followers . . . Bless the internet for making it possible to enjoy the day-to-day thoughts and words of one's beloved writers! Not long ago I ran across The Privilege of the Swordby chance while book-hunting here in Japan. I could barely wait long enough to pay for it before I started reading. It was a feast for my hungry soul.

PS: I like your post-apocalyptic barter skill! It seems like it would come in very handy. Also, thanks for sharing Michelle Shocked's web page; her quotes section is great.

Thanks - and welcome! Did you find it in English, or in Japanese? We're hoping to get back to Japan one of these days . . . .

Thank you for the warm welcome!
I found your book in English-- I'll have to do quite a lot more study before I am ready to tackle the Japanese version. =)

Ah! You have visited Japan before? That's wonderful. Did you see or do anything that stood out for you?

The next time you find yourself on these shores, I'm at your service.

Must buy Tee for my wife!

and maybe Michelle Shocked has hired a geek friend to do website? But, I went to her discography and was floored. I had no idea she had so much out. I have only two of her albums (okay, had one album and replaced it with two CDs--crap, I am old. I can remember 78s. I used to go to thrift stores in Cleveland in black neighborhoods for blues 78s until my roommate dropped a couch while moving on a box of them. They are brittle!!!!!!)

She never gets airplay on the radio so I have not heard anything from her. and I listen to stations on the public radio end.
