Thank you very much for your sage advice on iPhones. I'll stop squirming in the virtual clutches of The Man now, and just give gently to the siren writhings of corporate America now, I guess....

And so far my dear [livejournal.com profile] sartorias is way ahead in the lo-budget Fantasy Road Trip competition. But there's still plenty of roadspace for all.

I can just imagine Alec dragging Richard all over Kyros, from one village to the next, rhapsodizing over one set of scenic ruins after another, each village smelling of goats and dust until finally Richard says, "Enough". They stop on a crag overlooking a tiny beach far below. (There's a narrow footpath leading down to the beach; Richard will risk life and limb each time they walk down there, but he entrusts himself entirely to Alec). The farmhouse is ramshackle, but repairable; there are the remains of an herb garden full of chamomile and rosemary and dog roses, a few orange and olive trees, and old hives which were never abandoned by the bees.

Richard can't see any of this, of course, but he can tell by the scents on the breeze, the dull roar of the surf below, and Alec's mutterings. "Enough," Richard says, again, and Alec smiles and says, "Yes".
