Early this morning, [livejournal.com profile] copperwise posted the unhappy news that our beloved writer, Kage Baker, is going. Here it is; it also appeared in Green Man Review. I want to thank Kage's sister, Kathleen Bartholomew, for taking the time to write such a beautiful letter to us all. In the midst of comforting her sister on her final journey, she comforts us as well. It is an extraordinary gift.

I just started reading In the Garden of Iden. It's completely amazing and I would be sad that you are losing a friend no matter what, but now I'm grabbing at this book and going "but. . .but NO she needs to be WRITING MORE." I hope it's peaceful.

I read the news and it's very sad. But I confess that I've never read anything of hers, though I'm open to recommendations.

Anything. Really, just read anything of hers. It's all good.

I just read Garden of Iden after seeing your earlier post about her. I'm looking forward to reading more of her books, but not looking forward to running out of them.

Me too.

Never met her, but wanted her to stick around a whole lot longer.

I'm heartbroken. I never met her, but I deeply loved The Company books. I'm sorry I'll never have a chance to.

Oh, no. :(

Thank you for posting this. I'd only just gotten two Kage Baker books last week; I can't believe I've lived as long as I have without having read her work. I'm so sorry for her family and friends.

I'm so sorry you're losing a friend, and I wish I had something more than words and sympathy to offer.

Thank you. I can't really claim her as a friend, just a much-admired colleague:

It is the world's loss.

I picked up Garden of Iden and Dream Coyote from a used store near me (pleased to find an author you recommended and needing some escape). Garden of Iden is as good as you claimed. I'm glad I have the sequel also.
