Arrived in Paris at 8 am local time, 2 am NYC time (which is often when I go to bed - so you can imagine how much we didn't sleep on the plane - but paid extra on Air France for Premium Voyageur, and boy was it worth it!! 1 step down from Business at a fraction the cost - 10 steps up from Steerage! We love Air France).  Staggered onto RER to Gare du Nord & down endless corridor to Metro & finally found our friend's houseI meanapartement where she had croissants and raspberry jam waiting.  Devoured that, went to bed, got up & did what we usually do in the mornings as we come to:  e-mail & internet.  Only it's 6pm here, now - and soon Anne will return to walk us around the neighborhood, to make sure we know which is the good boulangerie (not, apparently, the one 2 doors down that I can see from the window) and take us to dinner.

Delia is sitting at the table with her laptop (WiFi is great here!) researching yarn stores in Paris. There are quite a few.  The hedgies have enjoyed some chocolate croissants.

And I am here to tell you about the Bordertown Lives! Sweepstakes!

Trust me, you'll be glad I did.  And please help spread the word.

You're in Paris?! How long will you be there?

My sister and I are flying out tomorrow and spending five days in Tours before heading to Paris next Thursday. Would absolutely love to meet up with you and Delia if you're still around!

Sorrow - we're headed next Weds to Imaginales, where we'll be guests - don't suppose you'd care to nip out to Epinal on the TGV?

Ooh, tempting, but we've got a lot to fit into five days, so probably not.

That being said, we may well have a few hours on Saturday morning and will definitely be in search of breakfast between arriving at CDG at 7:45 and our train from Gare Austerlitz at 12:30.

Sadly, the likelihood of our being awake at that hour is vanishingly slender...! Plus, we're meeting a friend for swordfighting exhibition at Cluny Museum at 11:30! You should definitely positively visit Cluny while you're here, though. And you will LOVE Tours!

Also: by the time you get your luggage & get to Austerlitz, it will be 10:30 or so. But it's a cool place to hang out. Bon voyage!

Ah, thanks for the heads-up. I assumed it would take us awhile to get through immigration and luggage and so forth, plus I actually have no idea where Gare Austerlitz is in relation to anything else (aside from vaguely southwest-ish).

Cluny is definitely on the list! I've been there before, but my sister hasn't, so I'm quite looking forward to going back. I've also visited Tours before, but only for the weekend so I'm thrilled to have five days to chase châteaux, dead people, and wine. ;)

And you two have a fantastic time at Imaginales! It looks brilliant and if we were around longer, I would be there in a heartbeat.

The best things in Paris, besides the art and history and food, are the scarf shops! Oh, France, land of scarves...

Ha! I announced as we were packing that the one thing we were allowed to buy in Paris was scarves . . . Can always find room for one more, even in a NY apartment.

They totally double as wall hangings. Totally.

Had one of the gifts in the Sweepstakes been..."A fabulous week in Paris with Delia Sherman and Ellen Kushner" I would have not donated and done everything I could to win. Sadly, I left that universe in my other jacket. Le Sigh. I shall have to be content from here. Say 'ello to my ancestral homelands. If you get over to Condé-sur-Noireau, could you look up my Gérault cousins for me? Thanks, you're a dear. Have fun! Merveilleuse aventure!

If you run into Brucero at Imaginales (he's one of the artist guests), please pass on love from all of us in Chagford. He was part of the "Sir Lanval" crew that was over here in December.
