My icons are so lame.

Other people's icons are so cool.

I realize that I could take a little more time to find/make cooler icons - but I realize I'm not going to.  It's just not the kind of thing I'm willing to spend extra time on.  Let's face it: it's a Craft Project; and I never in my life - - well,  let's put it this way:  I was the only kid at camp who never finished her lanyard.  (I meant to  - it sat in the bottom of my drawer for ehrm quite a few years....)

Metaphorically speaking, it's like being someone who doesn't really cook:  they just open a few cans & throw something together, because they don't enjoy the process, and in the end food isn't really that important to them.

OK, glad we got that settled.

(No, I know that [livejournal.com profile] taraljc  even made some supercool new Bordertown icons kind of because I was whining about the lameness of mine!

(They're in the bottom of my drawer.)

I like your icons. They all look like romantically historical versions of you. But a Bordertown icon might be a nice alternative too.

Why not ask your readers to suggest or make userpics for you? I'm sure lots of us would be happy to.

I've been told so; but it always makes me feel faintly embarrassed - and, as you know, I dont' embarrass easy.

On the recommendation front, at least, I can't see how it's any different from asking someone to suggest a dish you might want to try at a restaurant. And then if someone happens to cook for you, well, bonus!

My icons are fairly dull. But then, there are so many other things to do.

What are you talking about? Those beautiful portraits really look like you and can't be topped. Of course, this is from someone who has only one icon that's not really very arresting visually. I love it though, it's a photo of the back of an Icelandic 5000 Kronur note. Because it shows 18th century women doing Craft Projects.

Your icon is Cool!

But I wrote this in response to, well, some very cool icons I saw in some previous comments - you know, with rare and meaningful images with words stripped in . . . .

That's what icon commmunities are for....spend an hour browsing the cool ones, then never touch them again. ;) I recommend http://timepunching.livejournal.com for weirdness, http://solstation.livejournal.com for space icons, http://pagan-icons.livejournal.com/ for cool Pagany icons. Also feel free to click the tag 'icon' at my journal http://comrade-cat.livejournal.com for sf fandom, book, and Russian art icons.
