Speech! Speech!

Hollins University has posted the Keynote Speech that Delia Sherman & I gave in June at the Children's Literature Association Conference that was held there this year.  We decided to give parallel psycho-auto-biographies on how reading fantasy as children shaped our lives.  Here's the link, if you'd like to watch it:

Delia & I both taught in the Hollins Graduate program in Children's Literature this summer, and enjoyed it hugely.  We didn't realize when we signed on that we'd get the chance to participate in the CLA conference!  Wish we'd had more time to hang out and talk with people there, but we were so focused on polishing our speech that we missed a lot of good stuff.  Once the speech was over, we had a great time.

. . no, haven't watched the keynote yet. Have been attempting to solder silver bezel wire to make earrings with instead. (I'm used to soldering fairly heavy gauges of metal now, and having to fight to get and keep everything hot enough. Silver bezel wire is requiring something of an adjustment. Give it even a fraction of the heat I've been using and it melts. I can stop any time, though. I can. I mean, after I get the second earring done. . ..)

That's right, I owe you email, don't I? My brain: channeling Julia Larwood now more than ever. I do know, and I'm even thinking wistful thoughts about how maybe I could jump in the car with you, and hoping those dates don't conflict with plans anyone else might have made and then noted down somewhere I don't see.

I'm only here right now because the nephews are in Vermont for the next hour or two. Once they come back, I fully expect to vanish once more into the maelstrom of small child/no planning chaos.
