EK:  So let me just get this straight:  While you're in Mexico for the next 2 weeks, if I leave any dishes in the sink . . . they'll just stay there?

DS:  That's right.  I'm taking the Dish Fairies with me.

EK:  Are you sure that's really necessary?

DS:  They're attached to me.

EK:  I'm sure they'd like me, once they got to know me.

DS:  You scare them.

Here, we have a laundry fairy, who is attached to me; the marquis is similarly baffled by how she doesn't work when I'm away.

No guesses who does the washing up at yours! You need a dishwasher :)

Someone still has to load and unload the dishwasher, though.

That's Mr Jay's job. He calls it 'doing the housework' ;)

Ha! I love it. I'm the dishwasher here. It gives me something to hold over everyone. I hate it too; but I work at home. Oh, well. We can't hook up a dishwasher here--New York City apartments each have unique and weird drawbacks.

If I still had a cat, he would have fled the room in fear at the volume of my laughter. I have often come home from a weekend away to find that [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine has similarly not realized that the Dish Fairies travel with me.

The dish fairies seem to operate independently, perhaps they are attached to my house instead of those who dwell within it. However, the laundry fairies...they are totally attached to me only. In fact, they have gone on trips with me and have watched me with my sketchpad while watching the dryers in strange towns move around and around....

Bwaha! The vacuum fairy hasn't been to my house in a long time...

Neither has mine! Do you suppose there's a six-week Vacuum Workshop going on somewhere...?

Hee! I can so easily picture this conversation with you both.

In our house I hold the allegiance of the Kitchen, Laundry, and Cat Care fairies. My spouse commands the Financial and Grocery fairies. This works out well, because he will *buy* the cat food and litter, with coupons and at discounts, while I take care of actually administering to the cute and fuzzy beasts.

The rest we parcel out in an erratic fashion.

At one point I was staying with my shaolin master and his wife, when he was called out of the country on short notice. One his return, his wife congratulated him on arranging for a substitute magic dishwasher.

*LOL* I guess you could try disposable dishes for the duration. Plus one all-purpose mug. I think the mug can last two weeks of simply swishing under running water before it gets too disgusting ;-P

Mild Green Fairy Liquid

From: (Anonymous)
When I lived in England, I loved our dish washing-up liquid - "Mild Green Fairy Liquid". Though I felt sorry for the mild green fairies who got liquified.
Even better is the older slogan for Fairy Soap: "Have you a little fairy in your home?"

The little girl in the advert looks decidedly glum. Clearly, her Mild Green Dish Fairy has gone on holiday.
