All in the morning betime . . . .
Feb. 14th, 2012 10:45 amHappy Valentine's Day!
In the spirit of the austerity of the times, let me re-gift a few things that have delighted me lately:
First of all, thanks to everyone who contributed their own suggestions to the Break Up Songs special edition of Puggy's Hill (precipitated by my hearing Dar Williams' "February" last month, and bawling my eyes out)! I listened to them all, loving old favorites and gaining new ones - thanks to
rymenhild, I'm now a Vienna Teng fan, downloaded the whole album that "Antebellum" is on, and loving it. If you're alone & bitter today, try the bracing tonic (or do I mean homeopathic tincture?) of that link, which includes a link to the Sound & Spirit show Justine Larbalestier & I wrote about Breakup Songs Around the World.
If your sweetie is far away, and you've just realized that neither chocolate nor roses can possibly get there in time, do not despair! I've taken care of that. Just download them a genderqueer romance about a swordsman and his mysterious lover . . . let the Author murmur it directly into their shell-like ears . . . . right here, my dear.
For more Riverside goodies, I commend to you this thread I've got going with
heartofoshun, in which She Shows Me all her supercool Riverside icons, and I Show Her the abundant site of the French artist who pretty much nails it for me. (Her comment: "What a Valentine's Day gift. Makes me want to sit and make Riverside icons all morning." Hey - the morning's only half over....!)
My beloved nephew AJ (just out of college & Making His Way in the Big City) was over last night for Chili Night: I taught him the first skill *I* learned when *I* got out of college, and am sending home with a big container of our successful results. He asked what Valentine's Day was like in NYC, and I was about to say that there wasn't a lot to see - but then I remembered this post from 2010.
Delia's in Mexico. But the sweetest gift I could possibly have on this day celebrating romance is the simple, quiet knowledge that she exists, and loves me.

I'll second the comment on the audio book above. I got so excited after I bought mine and listened to it, that I bought a couple more of other beloved books and discovered yours is unique. So much better than the rest. Lovely recording.

Date: 2012-02-14 07:06 pm (UTC)One of my favorite authors and my favorite artists -- perfect. :) Her third album, Dreaming Through Noise, is also very very good. As a matter of fact, I listen to "City Hall" every February and bawl my eyes out... in a good way.

Date: 2012-02-14 11:20 pm (UTC)This just might be one of the most romantic things I have ever read. And the happiest, as well. Yeah, I got that prickling behind my eyes - you know the one. :)

Date: 2012-02-15 11:26 am (UTC)That makes me so happy that I introduced the two of you, makes me feel I did something right once upon a time. And makes me so happy for that feeling to be in the universe.

Re: Sweetness
Date: 2012-02-15 02:00 pm (UTC)So funny to think that it was a purely professional introduction - and that Delia had been watching me on panels and secretly wanting to know me . . . And that even then it took a good 7 years for us to get Romantic!
Without you, who knows?
The number of good things you have done is beyond counting; the friends & colleagues you've helped along the way.....
