Another fabulous day in the Basement in Brooklyn, recording The Privilege of the Sword ("TPOTS," pronounced "teapots") for Neil Gaiman Presents/ACX audiobooks. I'm going to miss this, when I'm done. Except for the Basement part. Such a ham, though . . .  maybe, like Dickens, I can go on tour, reading aloud the most dramatic bits in Atheneums across our fine land.

Today I did the theater scene, and found a terrific voice for The Black Rose: kind of a Lynne Fontanne 30s star voice (I hope!).  Viola Fine, for contrast, was kind of perky yet sportif:  the kid sister who's always playing tennis out back.  Really enjoyed all of Katherine's interior monologues.  I do like this writer; hope she does more books for me to read!

At the rate I am listening to Swordspoint, a few minutes at a time, TPOTS may be out in time for my next audiobook! Which is very exciting, because it means I don't have to hunt for other well-performed recordings of books I already like for a while. (I don't have the patience to listen to books I haven't read. I only listen to audiobooks when I love the books already and I want to live in their worlds again.)

At last listen, Michael Godwin was getting serious about swordsmanship, Ferris was plotting dastardly deeds, Horn was imagining revenge and Alec was mocking him shamelessly...

I teach a course called "Female Voices in Historical Narratives" to graduate students. It's focus is YA literature. I used Privilege of the Sword the past two sessions I taught it. We get to talk about historical fantasy fictions, and Katherine's vivid, personable voice.

OK, now you're making me cry. That means so much to me!

If you ever need me to come talk to grad students . . . well, talk to me! It sounds like a terrific course.

Woo-hoo! I am so excited to hear this is happening! Even if NGP is taking the majority of my Audible credits :D
