...after a deliriously delightful Wiscon. We are still not living in our apt., as not a single room in it is ready for habitation yet - including bathroom. When we moved all our worldly goods in, the contractor ordered our movers to pile all furniture & boxes in the middle of each designated room - "24 inches from the wall!" - since nothing was painted yet - and then had the temerity the next day to be upset when we said the ceiling light fixtures had to go up, because "it will be difficult . . . middle of room is filled with stuff." Ha.

Pitched a mild temperament fit (our first!) when we returned from Wiscon on Weds. to discover that - contrary to our specific request - they had not yet painted or put up poles in any clothes closets - do they like having to work around half a dozen wardrobe boxes (not to mention all those cardboard-encrusted books)...? On Friday, unpacked 4 wardrobe boxes into one closet - all off-season clothes, fortunately, still encased in plastic dry-cleaner sheets (from the rather unfortunate incident with the mice in the basement a couple years ago) . . . . Bedroom was painted yesterday, and with any luck will be able to order bed this week so we can sleep there when we return next week from Mythic Journeys. Meanwhile, are extremely fortunate to be able to crash in East Side apartment of my honorary uncle, a doctor who worked with my dad when I was small - he's the one who suggested to my father, when I was 12, that he buy me THE LORD OF THE RINGS - Dermot's off in his native New Zealand, and our crap (which we thought we'd be able to at least store in our apt., but Dream On) is spread out all over his floor. Dermot is a very tidy man. Every time we unlock the door, I have this awful fantasy of walking in to find I've gotten the dates wrong and he has returned to find our clothes and suitcases and papers all over his place.
