In September, the Science Fiction Book Club is bringing out an omnibus hardcover containing Swordspoint, The Privilege of the Sword, and the 3 "Riverside" early short stories (which were also printed in the back of the new Bantam paperback edition) as their Featured Alternate. Ellen Asher asked me to write a 700 character (not words, characters, truly) note to their readers - I've brought it in at 676.
I love to travel. But I can never decide whether to go somewhere new, or to return to somewhere I know and love so I can experience its pleasures again--especially once I’ve met people there who have become friends. It’s the same when I travel in made-up places. For a long time, I planned never to revisit the city I invented for my first novel, Swordspoint. But I missed those people. I missed walking the streets of its disreputable Riverside district with them. So finally I bought my ticket, and here we are, back again, some 20 years later! It hasn’t changed much—but the ways it has changed are exciting. You could say the same for me. Travel is so broadening.

. . . and now to rescue Wendy and the Boys! -- I mean, to help Delia talk to the Polish workmen about where shelves should go, and like that.

I just finished reading The Privilege of the Sword and I loved it. It is quite possibly the most beautiful book I have ever read.

Argh--I don't belong to the book club. Is there any other way for me to get my hands on a copy of this ominbus edition? What a lovely thing to covetown.

And also? "rescue Wendy and the Boys!--I mean" Heh.

SFBC copies tend to end up on Amazon or similar used sites after a certain amout of time.

It it also, I believe, possible to get on the mailing list for flyers without haveing to deal with the "reply or get books you don't want" thing, although I do not know the details...

Hi! It's Lauren, from the White Plains Borders store. Thank you again for coming to the SFRA signing, along with your fellow authors. It was great meeting you and Delia too! I'll be having a conference call with my District Marketing Manager later this week, so I'll see who the DMM is for the NYC stores.

I hope I didn't over blitz you with yaoi titles. Oh, here is the yaoi title that became a huge seller for Digital Manga Press (http://www.yaoi-manga.com/index), Only the Ring Finger Knows, and for good reason. It's a must read. And there's two novels also! Totally addictive.

Thanks for your time & have a great day!

Hi, Lauren, great to hear from you! We really enjoyed meeting you--and getting the private tour of the hot yaoi titles was fantastic. Keep in touch.

Hey Ellen Kushner. My name is Duncan. I just wanted to say that Swordspoint has for a long time been one of those books that I re read every couple of years. It's lovely. I just recommended it to a friend of mine here in Vancouver who's opened up a fencing school called Duello. I'm making sure others read it. Thanks for choosing to write.

Many thanks, Duncan. It's so encouraging to hear Swordspoint is a good re-read. I hope the Duello folks like it, too!
