Where's Ellen?
Feb. 20th, 2005 01:53 pmWell, today Ellen is curled up on the sofa sucking down gingerale and soda crackers and reading Margery Allingham . . . but she will be better soon, she will, she will! and then on Friday she's going to TULSA, OKLAHOMA to do a wonderful community concert Saturday, and then a reading/signing at Borders on Sunday. This concert is a bi-annual (is that every 2 years? I can never remember) event which I always love doing. 2 yrs ago, the Saturday was so balmy we were walking around with our jackets unbuttoned, and then we woke up Sunday to something like a foot of snow, and more on the way. A few hardy souls (self and Delia included) made their way to to the Borders for the signing, but it was a slog for all. Wish me absence of storms this year!
On March 2 I'm honored to be hosting a gala for an organization that works against domestic violence in Cambridge, Mass. And on Sunday, April 3, Mary, Michael & Josef (no kidding!) and I are performing ESTHER: THE FEAST OF MASKS under the auspices of a truly impressive coalition of interfaith congregations in Southwest Boston.

Meanwhile, revisions on THE BONE CHANDELIER continue apace. I had been planning to do a running progress report in the journal, but there hasn't been time. For now I will simply tell you that we're back to calling our 2 obscure Eastern European countries Meszria and Zamorna (10 points per reference!). They are ancient rivals. Zamorna is now taking money from the Austrians, and it's only a matter of time before they get sucked into the Austro-Hungarian empire, the modern world with its guns and steel. Meszria is holding out. It is ruled by a Duke whose Duchess mysteriously disappeared some years ago, and is presumed dead. Their daughter, Petra, is being courted by the Prince of Zamorna (or rather, his ambassador); she's much too young to marry, and would rather be off practicing her swordplay or climbing over the palace wall to the Bad side of town, where a former cabaret artist named Gracie now keeps a tavern called The Lady's Arms....
