For those who complain I never come to your town: I may not make it, but my current love god, Nerdcore Rappist Schaffer the Dark Lord (the Cole Porter of NerdRap), is kicking off a tour next week that includes Cleveland, Iowa City, Omaha, Des Moines, Minneapolis, Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago . . . . Check out the complete schedule - and listen to some of his songs - here. If South Park makes you scream with glee, you'll love him. (Have I confessed my adoration of SP here yet? Delia's theory that Cartman is really a Falstaff figure aside, I just love the fury and the wit. Yeah, they don't nail it everytime - I've had to turn it off on occasion 'cause it's just stupid & gross, but at its best it functions like a homeopathic remedy for my own neverending rage. [Oops - is there a way to lock this post against people who love Sound & Spirit?] And the words "Gimme t'ree fi'ty - It was the Loch Ness Monsta!" never fail to convulse me. Same goes for The Rappist. And don't miss his Supervillain: "Carry on with your heroic monologue, you silly bastard / I won't hear a word over my own demonic laughter..."!)

GRIN Those of us who love Sound & Spirit won't hold either your neverending rage nor your love of SP against you. GRIN Though I was hoping for a better ending to The Privilege of the Sword. Loved it until you changed the plot to be about the Duke instead of Katherine. It was at that moment that I realized this was part of a larger cycle of stories and I cursed myself for not starting at the real beginning. That way I'd grasp what you're doing by taking the sword out of Katherine's hands. Otherwise the book was wonderful and makes me want to read more had I the budget to permit it.

Thanks! Re. the plot of TPOTS: Hmm. I never thought of it that way. But then, I've had these people in my brain for over 20 years, now - to me, it's all of their stories intertwined. I hope you like the other 2 books, too! And hope they turn up in your library somehow....

I thought "homeopathic remedy for my own neverending rage" sounded like an excellent subject for a Sound & Spirit episode. Everybody feels that way at least sometimes, don't they?

Why am I not surprised that I share Delia's appreciation for dear, Rabelaisian Cartman? I was packing up my stuff after my Shakespeare class last week and two students were discussing some upcoming club meeting. One of them promised the other that there would be punch & pie. I quietly repeated, in my best Cartman voice, which is pretty damn good, "punch n' paaah!" Gratifyingly explosive laughter from the younguns.
I have to add, too, that our marriage has improved greatly now that AB and I have learned the trick of short-circuiting arguments with "You're a towel!"
