For those who complain I never come to your town: I may not make it, but my current love god, Nerdcore Rappist Schaffer the Dark Lord (the Cole Porter of NerdRap), is kicking off a tour next week that includes Cleveland, Iowa City, Omaha, Des Moines, Minneapolis, Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago . . . . Check out the complete schedule - and listen to some of his songs - here. If South Park makes you scream with glee, you'll love him. (Have I confessed my adoration of SP here yet? Delia's theory that Cartman is really a Falstaff figure aside, I just love the fury and the wit. Yeah, they don't nail it everytime - I've had to turn it off on occasion 'cause it's just stupid & gross, but at its best it functions like a homeopathic remedy for my own neverending rage. [Oops - is there a way to lock this post against people who love Sound & Spirit?] And the words "Gimme t'ree fi'ty - It was the Loch Ness Monsta!" never fail to convulse me. Same goes for The Rappist. And don't miss his Supervillain: "Carry on with your heroic monologue, you silly bastard / I won't hear a word over my own demonic laughter..."!)

Saturday had brunch with some friends from NJ, and finally met my "fairy godson" (who loved being the center of attention, no matter what his Mom says!) A delightful child, who seems to be ticklish in the ear: all you have to do to send him into fits of giggles is to speak words with complicated syllables. Here we all are. Asked Daddy to elucidate on the connections he claimed to see between Thomas the Rhymer and the Swordspoint books - most people think they're worlds apart, can barely believe they're written by the same person. Eric said that both have, at their hearts, a tension between Aristocracy/Birth and Talent/Skill.

Wow. I think he's right.
