omg - and I can make my new iPod Classic 120GB be a radio, too!

Does anyone else have one of these gadgets? Are you happy with it? And will I be able to plug into my new little JBL On Stage Micro Portable Speaker Dock? Will we be able to listen to radio in the kitchen, which currently gets utterly crap reception due to location at bottom of courtyard in 1908 building with very thick walls, or is there only so much technology can do?

It looks like that plugs in at the bottom where the dock would go, so I doubt it would work, unless there is some gadget that makes for 2 dock receptacles on the bottom of an iPod (I've learned to never say never with gadgets).

iLounge (http://www.ilounge.com/) has lots of iPod info, toys, etc.

I have a kerosene powered, er, 3rd gen iPod, circa 2003. Someday soon I hope to be on here squee-ing about owning an iPhone, but it's not today. :P

It does use the dock connector. (It's also not going to work any better than an FM radio with an external antenna, and probably worse.)

I haven't seen any kind of dock splitter, and based on my understanding of the way the iPod communicates over the cable, doubt one would be possible. (At most you'd get something that passed through the sync and power connections while having a speaker jack or something, like the Apple dock.)

I'll second the recommendation for iLounge, though. Comprehensive review coverage, and they usually do a round-up of various accessories each year as a buyer's guide.

Thank you both!

Yeah, it covers the dock connector, and you won't get any better reception on it. Also, I must tell you that while it's fun to have radio, they are very, very flimsy. The first one I bought stopped working after a year, and the back came off the second one after I'd had it a few months.

I hate to admit my consumerism, but when Air America/NovaM went off the air in sacramento, I bought an internet radio, which is now in my kitchen, so I can have my progressive radio opinions (God bless Rachel Maddow) and use my local wireless router to tune in to over 1000 radio stations from around the world. It sounds great, but so far I have locked in 7 radio stations, as I don't have the time to browse for many radio stations. I will say music from Ghana is fun.

Internet Radios

Aha! Yes, I've really been wanting one of those but feeling like a wimp because of course I could just bring my laptop into the kitchen, couldn't I? (But think how hard I'd cry if it got knocked off the counter by a soup tureen! It is a NY kitchen, after all...)

Any tips on which one to buy?

I have a Sangean and it has been relatively trouble-free over the past year and has a nice tone. I hate to say it, but the deciding factor was price. It was $100 on Amazon. It does not have unlimited connectivity to internet stations. If there are some you like and they are not there, you have to ask them to add them and then die from old age.

Hence, no more KGNU, radio 1190 and KRFC from Fort Collins and Boulder.

So in writing this, I realize I need to track down many of my favorite public radio shows so I can program them in. D'oh! Logical thought has escaped me lately. Gingko away.
