King Alexander the Stag
Feb. 7th, 2006 11:01 pmThanks for all your kind and encouraging words about The Privilege of the Sword! I'll keep posting about it as the days (and weeks and months...oh, god give me patience...) progress toward publication. Raging "Swordspoint" world completists have noted that there's one short story that is pretty much impossible to find anywhere: "The Tragedy of King Alexander the Stag" by Delia Sherman, in A Distant Soil #29, ed. and illustrated by Colleen Doran (Image Comics, 1999), takes place about 800 years before The Fall of the Kings, and has never been reprinted (yet!). We do have, if not a basement full of them, at least enough to share with LJ friends - and also quite a few of ADS #28 with my old story "Red Cloak" in there, also illustrated by Colleen. If you're interested in acquiring same, our invaluable asst. Davey gives instructions on how to order:
Anyone interested in acquiring a copy of ADS #29 with Delia Sherman's story "The Tragedy of King Alexander the Stag" illustrated by Colleen Doran, should please send $5 (check, money order, or even cash if you trust the USPS that much) to:
Ellen Kushner
c/o IAF
POB 35862
Boston, MA 02135
Please make sure that your name and mailing address are clearly noted in the request, and make checks payable to "Delia Sherman."
If you also want a copy of ADS #28 with Ellen's story "Red Cloak" illustrated by Colleen Doran, please add another $2 ($7 total for both issues).
All copies will be signed with author's name(s).
NB: This is for mailing in the U.S. only! For International, see below.

Date: 2006-02-07 08:37 pm (UTC)I already have the "Red Cloak" issue, but I was never able to find "The Tragedy of King Alexander the Stag" in my comic book store. Ooooh.
I remember how excited I was when I first saw "Red Cloak" and the other Riverside stories reprinted in Swordpoint. Any chance of your other lovely short stories in all those volumes of "Years Best Fantasy & Horror" being collected and reprinted into a short story collection? *_*

Date: 2006-02-08 12:12 am (UTC)I live in Sweden though, could you please let me know if it's doable to ship here, and if it is, let me know how much extra would it cost?
(If this is too much trouble though, I'll just route them via a friend in the US)

Date: 2006-02-08 07:38 am (UTC)And note that "Red Cloak" is a fribble: the first story I ever sold, and a kind of five-finger exercise for what would become the Swordspoint guys. It's already been reprinted at the end of the new Bantam edition of Swordspoint, along with the 2 other short stories about those characters. But if you're a Colleen Doran fan, you definitely want the ADS version.

Date: 2006-02-09 02:27 pm (UTC)For International Orders
Date: 2006-02-09 02:31 pm (UTC)For international requests, 5 GBP or 10 EUR, for either just Delia's issue (#29) or both (#28 and #29 - be sure to tell us what you want!). All international payments must be *cash*; we don't have any reasonable way to process non-US$ checks or PayPal without adding expense. (Those numbers aren't strictly equitable between the currencies, but they allow for fluctuation and not having to deal with coins in envelopes.)
Apologies for the many simplifications, but this is the most efficient way for us to get the books out to people. They will be sent by surface post, so please be patient - and thanks!

Date: 2006-02-09 04:11 pm (UTC)One question: it may sound silly (I admit, I am an amateur in the world), but will these cheques come directly to the hands of yourself and Ms Sherman? If so, may I be permitted to write a letter of admiration (it sounds frightening, but it'll be modest, no frets) and inquiry? I would be much elated.
Though, happy either way!

Date: 2006-02-09 04:21 pm (UTC)Our assistant, Davey (a.k.a. She Who Must Be, if not Obeyed, at least Listened To or we'll be Sorry), will be opening the mail and processing the cheques. Any additional love letters will of course be passed on to us immediately. BUT she also reads this LJ, so: if there's something you want to be For Our Eyes Only, either write PERSONAL on the envelope, or - to make assurance double-sure - enclose a sealed note addressed to Delia and/or me. Davey is a very honorable woman - it must be that, because we can't possibly pay enough to purchase the kind of discretion she nonetheless delivers. (Oh, and we'll be seeing the cheques, too, of course, since we have to countersign and deposit them!)

Date: 2006-02-11 01:37 pm (UTC)Do be prepared for gushing, then. And some out-of-place questions (I have no idea what I mean by that).
No frets, though. This shall be simpler than it sounds. All right! Thank you!

Date: 2007-05-28 12:46 pm (UTC)I'll try to resend it today, but could you just tell me how much will the ADS cost with shipping to Israel in USD? I'll mail you the money along with my return address.
Sorry again for bugging you, but i am really hoping to get it in time for my girlfriend's birthday. :)
Also, do you want anything from Israel? :D

Date: 2007-05-30 09:22 pm (UTC)All I want from Israel is a year's worth of Leben for my fridge, and you can't mail that, I'm afraid!
