Little Sisters

I am an eldest child. So I never had to go through the petite weirdness of arriving for my first day of school only to have a teacher look closely at me and say, "Oh - are you So-and-So's sister?" in tones that - according to friends with colorful sibs - can range from awed admiration to barely-controlled hostility.

But I am definitely feeling the experience now, with so many Privilege of the Sword reviews coming out that consider it in reference to Swordspoint. Poor Katherine! Good thing she's tough.

And some people have even been coming up to me and saying, sotto voce, that they think they like the new one better than Swordspoint - which is actually encouraging, considering I've gotten a few more years of writing practice under my belt since I wrote my first novel- I'd hate to think I hadn't learned anything in all that time! But, as with siblings, preference for one over another must be a matter of taste. It is only a parent (she said, suddenly switching her role in the family dynamic) who is not allowed to state one. Of course I love all my novels equally!

The latest sibling review is a very nice one by Cynthia Ward on scifi.com - excellent precis, no spoilers (unless you haven't read Swordspoint already, in which case, just skip the first paragraph and you're fine).

Big thanks to Cat over at Green Man Review for letting me know about this one right away - he's turning out to be a better clipping service even than my mom ever was! And the Green Man review of TPOTS - which I cited last week when Cat gave us all a sneak preview - is now officially up in their August issue.

I just finished Swordspoint. Went and got it because much of the blogosphere I read has been a-flutter over TPOTS, so I thought I had better start at the beginning. I enjoyed Swordspoint a great deal, and I am very much looking forward to reading TPOTS.

BTW, if you are a San Diego local, or if it isn't too far out of the way for you, would you consider being a panel participant at Conjecture (http://www.conjecture.org) at the end of September? The theme this year is "Fantastic Women", and I have already nudged the programming team to invite you.
